DIY Baby Shampoo Recipe
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup of warm water.
- 2 Tbsp aloe vera gel – moisturizes without making hair greasy.
- 1/8 tsp vitamin E – moisturizes without making hair greasy.
- 1 tsp witch hazel – boosts the cleaning power.
- 1 tsp glycerin – helps create bubbles & thickens the shampoo slightly.
- 1 tsp baking soda – important if you have hard water.
- 1/4 cup of liquid castile soap – unscented or try the lavender scent (my favorite)
You will also need an empty soap bottle or another container to hold your shampoo in. For optimal bubble factor, use a foaming soap dispenser. I have a super simple foaming hand soap recipe too! (You can even get free printable labels!)
Directions
- Combine the first 6 ingredients in an empty bottle.
- Slowly add 1/4 of castile soap to the bottle to avoid major bubbles.
- Tighten the bottle cap and give it a few shakes.
- Transfer to an empty foaming soap bottle and save the rest for later.
- Ready to use! That was easy!!!
The ingredients for the body wash is almost the same as the baby shampoo. The baby body wash has a little bit of oil added for extra moisture. Using the body wash on babies body will probably result in some greasy hair.
Alternatively, the baby shampoo is still gentle and moisturizing enough to be used as a body wash.

Gentle On Eyes
This baby shampoo is very gentle on babies delicate skin. This formula is pretty diluted so eye irritation should be minimal. Users report little to no complaints when it gets into eyes. A washcloth over the eyes will prevent this. Or you can tilt your little ones head back when washing their hair.
Tear-free shampoos are not soap – they are a surfactant. Which means they are chemicals used to cleanse the skin. They work differently than soap. You should avoid on your babies skin because of a host of questionable ingredients.
If you find this shampoo or body wash drying out your little one’s skin, add 1 tsp of citric acid to your recipe. Citric acid will reduce the PH of the soap.
