If you’re sick of all the time spent hanging up coats and picking up shoes then keep reading.

Kids shoe organization has never been easier! And it all takes 5 minutes or less. Pretty awesome!

Why You Need A Kids Shoe Organization System

If you’re a Mom, you get it. Not only do you have to take care of your own clothing. BUT you’re responsible for the clothing of all the little people in your home. Plus all their shoes.

It’s exhausting to just think about!

Your children need a designated spot for their shoes. Consistency is so important with children. Where their shoes belong follows suit.

They need a spot where they put their shoes and they can rely on to find their shoes when it’s time to leave the house. Your job as the parent is to provide that consistency.

In our house we have a no shoes policy – so it’s even more vital to have a designated spot close to the door where shoes go. If you have little kids, you should really consider a no shoes policy for the health and safety of your children.

A designated spot for each of my kids shoes – Check!

A small footprint for our small coat closet – Check!

A bar for coats – Check!

Most closet organization systems for kids are designed to fail. What toddler can reach a coat that’s 4 feet off of the floor?

While coat racks are made for adults, you’ve got to give your little one a sporting chance. The bar can’t be so high. You need a lower bar.

You could go buy one of those fancy closet organization systems – but who’s got the time to put that thing in? Plus they are expensive!

Here is our kid’s shoe organization system in action in our entryway closet.

The solution is to have a bar for the coats that is low enough for your kids to reach. And a special storage spot for everyone’s shoes.

And it all sets up in just a few minutes. It was so easy!!

An added bonus is there is space on top of the organizer between the bar it hangs from. I store my canvas bags and the kids umbrellas there.

Bonus Tips

I added some boxes inside of each of the shoe cubbies. I felt they would give the cubbies more support and they’ve held up outstandingly well. The bottom cubbie feels like it has less support than the top cubbie though. Like your kids, my kids lack a gentle touch. Kids pull and tug on things until things come down or fall down. So after a few years, I’m pretty happy with how they still look.

I was concerned I would overload the bar with coats. But it’s held up great! Even with all the pulling and tugging, the bar is still super straight two years later.

The cubbies would be great for adult shoes too. If you only have 2 kids, the bottom cubbies can be for kid shoes and the top cubbies can be for adult shoes. We just put the older kid shoes on top since they can reach.

Even my 2-year-old can get his own coat and shoes! And he’s so proud of himself.

And you’ll be proud of your organized closet. Less stress with no more missing shoes – they have a home!

Extra Shoe Storage Options

The shoes in the cubbies are the shoes we use on a day to day basis. Boots, dress shoes, and shoes that are used less often are stored in each child’s room. We use a smaller hanging organizer for them too. They are the perfect fit for little shoes!!

I love how compact the organizer is and it has held up well. I’ve bought other brands but Better Homes and Garden has faired the best in our home.

Below you see it pictured with adult shoes in it. But they fit a kids pair of shoes like no ones business.

Here is a cool cube shoe organizer. If we had more closet space I’d snatch this one up! It would also work nicely in an entry way.

Or this organizer that has larger slots. where you could store both shoes and boots. Or you’re husband’s big shoes that take up more room.

And of course, there is always the cubbies with bins. With all the wear, I think these cool metal bins look better for shoe storage. We have fabric bins for the kids toys. The fabric bins last a few years before they start getting ratty.

Plus it doubles as an entry way bench.

Get Organized

The bottom line is to find a place where shoes go at the end of the day. No more big old pile of mismatched shoes. Or rushing out the door, looking for a matching pair.

Whatever option you choose, get organized and find a spot for shoes to go! Shoe organization is pretty easy and saves you lots of time and hassle.
